Gurk Cathedral and Shrine of St. Hemma

Eucharistic Miracle of Seefeld - Seefeld, Tirol, Austria
In the now-popular resort town of Seefeld in the 14th century, sacrilege of a communion wafer left an arrogant knight sunk, literally. The miraculous host and the desperate knight's handprints on the stone altar can still be seen at the pilgrimage church of St. Oswald in Seefeld.

Our Lady of Absam - Absam, Tirol, Austria
In 1797, in the small village of Absam near Innsbruck, an 18-year-old girl saw an image of the Virgin Mary appear in the windowpane. The image remained on the glass, was determined to be miraculous, and soon began to effect miraculous healings. Today, the small glass pane with the image of the Virgin is enshrined in the parish church for veneration.

Maria Plain

Our Lady of Maria Plain - near Salzburg, Austria
This 17th-century hilltop shrine overlooking Salzburg has a painting of the Virgin Mary that miraculously survived a bakery fire. The shrine became a Minor Basilica in 1952 and was visited by Pope John Paul II in 1983.

Christ Child of Loreto - Salzburg, Austria
The Maria Loreto Convent in Salzburg houses a miraculous statue of the Christ Child dating from the 17th century.

Cathedral of Gurk and Shrine of St. Hemma - Gurk, near Klagenfurt
The Cathedral of Gurk is an impressive cathedral filled with beautiful architecture and art. It also contains the tomb altar of the beloved Saint Hemma, an 11th-century Austria noblewomen who devoted her later life to God and to the poor.

Our Lady of Mariazell
The most popular shrine in Central Europe and the national shrine of Austria, Hungary and Bohemia, Mariazell has a 12th century miraculous wooden statue of the Virgin Mary.
