The face, surrounded by wreaths and supported by winged victories, symbolizes Minerva and also resembles water gods like Oceanus and Neptune. It also recalls the sun, which may refer to the heat of the Sacred Spring. The owl in the lower right corner refers to the wisdom of Minerva.
