Aminadab
Aminadab

Aminadab. One of 43 surviving panels of the Ancestors of Christ dating from the late 12th century and originally placed in the clerestory. He is now the sixth light in the bottom row of the west window.

Aminadab is paired with his son Naason, and together they are the earliest of the windows erected beyond the choir screen in 1180. The armatures of the glass beyond this point are different than earlier windows, indicating a date between 1180 and 1207.

Aminadab and Naason are attributed to the Petronella Master, named for the story of the nun Petronella in one of the Becket Miracle Windows. Close similarities in style can be seen between this work and that at St Remi in Rheims, France.
