Life of St Alphege Window in the north choir aisle gallery (Nt. IX). Alphege was Archbishop of Canterbury 1005-12. The top scene shows the siege of Canterbury by the Danes in 1011. Alphege is said to have rushed to the center of the battle and tried to stop the Danes from killing the citizens of Canterbury (shown at right). The left scene shows Alphege's departure by boat for Greenwich, where he was killed by an axe.
