St Mary's Church, Deerhurst

Nave Looking East
Nave Looking East

Saxon nave (7th century), looking east to the chancel. The Saxon chancel arch (8th or 9th century) has been preserved in the east wall. The Normans were the first to knock out the nave walls to form side aisles, but the present arcades are Early English Gothic. They have a fine collection of capitals, carved with designs from stiff-leaf to arabesque. St. Mary's Church, Deerhurst, Gloucestershire, England.
