Sacred Destinations

An illustrated guide to sacred sites, pilgrimages, religious art, and historic holy places around the world.

Gloucester Cathedral

Center of the Great East Window (1350), with the Virgin Mary crowned and receiving the blessing of Christ. Both were originally enthroned; the lower part of the panel is a replacement. On the left is St. Peter, with a key and holding his abbey church (Gloucester Cathedral was formerly the Abbey of St. Peter) and on the right is St. Paul, with sword.
