Tympanum: The Redeemed

Detail of the Last Judgment tympanum over the west door, sculpted by Gislebertus around 1130. On the left side, redeemed souls ascend to heaven with the help of angels. In the center of this photo, one person is being hoisted into the Heavenly City by an angel. The heads of those already there are shown under arches. St. Peter oversees the operation on the right with a damaged key. Along the bottom (not shown), a Latin inscription proclaims the joys of Paradise.
