St. John Window: Drinking Poisoned Cup
St. John Window: Drinking Poisoned Cup

John drinks from a poisoned cup, but is miraculously unharmed. The Hand of God can be seen at the top. The two dead men at the bottom are the condemned criminals who drank the poison first to test its potency. Detail of the St. John Window in the south nave aisle, which illustrates the legend of St. John the Evangelist, a.k.a. St. John the Divine. It dates from the early 13th century.
