Having been told by Christ in a vision that he would die on Sunday, the 98-year-old John reponded with joy. On the appointed day he went into a grave dug for him in the church at Ephesus. A great light surrounded him and he disappeared, leaving nothing but "manna" in the grave. Detail of the St. John Window in the south nave aisle, which illustrates the legend of St. John the Evangelist, a.k.a. St. John the Divine. It dates from the early 13th century.
