St. John Window: Angels at John's Death

Having been told by Christ in a vision that he would die on Sunday, the 98-year-old John reponded with joy. On the appointed day he went into a grave dug for him in the church at Ephesus. A great light surrounded him and he disappeared, leaving nothing but "manna" in the grave. Detail of the St. John Window, early 13th century.
