Fontevraud Abbey: Romanesque Kitchen (Detail)

Romanesque Kitchen (Detail)

Exterior detail of the Romanesque kitchen, a fascinating structure with a Byzantine style cupola and fish-scale pyramid roof, like those seen in nearby Poitou. It dates from around 1160 and was restored in the early 20th century by Lucien Magne, who added a lantern to each chimney. Abbey of Fontevraud, Loire Valley, France.
