Three sides of the capital tell the most famous story from his legend, in which he divides his cloak with a beggar outside the city gate of Amiens, then dreams of Christ wearing it. The fourth side shows him raising a man from the dead. The inscription explains the scenes: MARTINVS ADHVC CATEHCVMANVS HAC ME VESTE CONTEXIT HIS MARTINVS ELECTVS DEI PONTIFEX.
