Musée de l'Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris

France has had close ties with the Arab world for centuries, due to trade links established during the crusades and France's former colonies in North Africa.

The Musée de l'Institut du Monde Arabe (Museum of the Institute of the Arab World) explores this relationship and provides visitors with insights into the religion, philosophy and politics of the Arab/Islamic world.

The museum's exhibits include samples of the calligraphy, decorative arts, architecture, and photography of the Arab world, as well as archive resources open only to scholars.

The building that houses the Museum of the Arab World was designed in 1987 by architect Jean Nouvel and includes a gift shop and Moroccan restaurant. The restaurant's windows provide nice views of Notre-Dame, l'Ile de la Cité, and Sacré-Coeur.
