A lovely sculpture group depicting the Entombment of Christ in the Fou Chapel of Notre-Dame-la-Grande, Poitiers. Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus are shown laying the body gently in the grave, as Mary Magdalene, John the Evangelist and the Virgin Mary mourn. Dated to 1555 by an inscription on the back of one of the figures, the group was given to Trinity Abbey (now destroyed) by Renée d'Amboise, whose sister was abbess.
