Saint-Benoît-Sur-Loire Abbey Church: Roman Mosaic Pavement

Roman Mosaic Pavement

Detail of intricate pavement of the sanctuary (or presbytery) in Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire Abbey. The mosaic floor in polychrome marble is the oldest object in the church: dating from the 4th or 5th century during the Roman period. It was installed in the previous abbey church around 1000 and preserved in the present church.
