Pala d'Oro
Pala d'Oro

The Pala d'Oro, a golden altar frontal that dates from the beginning of the 11th century and was probably a gift of Emperor Otto II or Heinrich II. Christ in Glory occupies the central mandorla, flanked by the Virgin Mary, Saint Michael and medallions of the Four Evangelists. The relief panels depict scenes from the Passion of Christ.
