Maria Laach Abbey

View of Maria Laach abbey church from the west. An exceptional example of German Romanesque architecture, the church was begun in 1093 and completed in 1177. The unique west porch (or "Paradise") was added in 1230 and is currently (January 2008 - end of 2009) undergoing renovations.
