Larger-than-life sculptures on the right (east) wall of the Paradise. On the left is Bishop Dietrich (Theodor) III, founder of the cathedral, holding the cross-inscribed foundation stone and a scroll describing the foundation ceremonies. On the right is St. Lawrence holding a miniature iron grill, instrument of his martyrdom. Beneath their feet is a frieze with populated vines possibly representing the Labors of the Months.
Along with the two sculptures on the opposite wall, these sculptures date from before 1264 and are considered some of the finest German sculptures of the 13th century. The two groups represent the church (bishop and saint) and the world (woman and knight).
