Nestled up close to the Dome of the Rock on the eastern side is this smaller structure, the Dome of the Chain. The Dome of the Chain is located on the approximate center of the Temple Mount and probably functioned as a treasury. According to some scholars, it stands over the site of the sacrificial altar of the Jewish Temple. Photo Paolo Massa.
