Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem

The famed dome of the Dome of the Rock was originally made of gold, then of copper, then an aluminum alloy. This was replaced with gold leaf in 1994 thanks to a donation from the late King Hussein of Jordan. On the top of the dome is a moon symbol, the opening through which points towards Mecca.
