Hammamat Ma’in
From Madaba, you can descend the steep winding road toward the Dead Sea to visit the remarkable Hammamat Ma’in, a series of natural hot springs and waterfalls, some of which have been channeled into pools and baths.
King Herod frequented the springs here, and built a villa for himself at nearby Mukawer.
According to tradition, it was at this palace that Salome danced and John the Baptist was beheaded (Matt. 14: 1-12).
Further south along the Jordanian shore of the Dead Sea are two excellent spa resorts.
