Lima
A vast polluted metropolis situated in the middle of Peru's desert coastline, Lima is a magnet for struggling highland villagers and does not immediately charm visitors.
However, it merits a closer look, for it actually has much to offer travelers (including those interested in religion) — several historic churches, interesting museums full of Inca and pre-Inca artifacts, striking architecture, a vibrant cafe scene and genuinely friendly people.
Lima has an impressively restored colonial center, and its tranquil churches provide a welcome respite from the outside clamor. Its many markets overflow with consumer goods and handicrafts.
