Cities are listed by their ancient name, with modern name (where applicable) and country in parentheses. Links go to Roman site pages, where there are other sites in the same city.
Why is this a "sacred site" category? Because Roman cities were filled with temples to a variety of deities, often included sacred baths, and many of the cities went on to have early Christian churches and Jewish synagogues added as well. Several of these cities, in fact, were important early Christian centers.
