The Kingdom of Spain (Spanish and Galician: Reino de España) is a large country on the Iberian peninsula in southeastern Europe. Over its long history, Spain has been a stronghold of Roman religion, Catholicism, Islam, and then Catholicism again. Judaism was also well-established in Spain - as much as 8% of the population - until the expulsion of 1492. With such a varied religious history, it is no surprise that Spain provides today's tourists and pilgrims with a vast array of fascinating religious sites, from the medieval pilgrimagete destinations of Santiago de Compostela to the intriguing mosque/cathedral of Cordoba.
