Photo Gallery: Dura Europos
This gallery of 31 photos accompanies our article on Dura Europos, an ancient Hellenistic-Roman city on the Euphrates River in Syria. Excavations at Dura Europos have uncovered the oldest synagogue and the oldest church ever found (both from the early 3rd century) as well as a Mithraeum and other pagan temples. The synagogue has been moved to the National Museum in Damascus and the church has been moved to the Yale University Art Gallery, but we've reunited them all together here.
