Ladon and Psalis - House of Menander
Mosaic of two reclined water deities, Ladon and Psalis. The Ladon River flowed near the famed Temple of Apollo at Daphne and while unattested as a river, the nymph Psalis may well refer to the rushing falls or springs in Daphne. Together with nearby panels depicting Tryphe (Luxury) and an olive harvest allude to the wealth of the land and sea around the villa.
From the House of Menander in Daphne, 250-75 AD. Antakya Museum, inv. 1015.
