Megalopsychia Antioch Mosaic Border

Part of the border of the Megalopsychia Hunt Mosaic, which depicts a "day in the life" of fifth-century Antioch and Daphne and provided a guided tour from one to the other. This scene is near the start of the tour, on the left side of the border as you face the Megalopsychia, as here.

Here we are in Antioch along a main colonnaded street. On the left of this portion of the mosaic is the entrance to a house, with grilled windows on either side of the door. Next to the house, a servant steadies a bundle balanced on his head and carries a basket in his left hand.

Next, in front of a two-story café with an open balcony on the upper floor, a reclining patron accepts refreshment offered by a servant. A porter carries a rolled carpet or bundle of wood from the direction of a two-story building with a colonnade across the lower story.
