Picture of Hagia Sophia - Sultan's Loge and Apse

View of the apse with a mosaic of the Virgin and Child (top) and the sultan's loge (left) in the Hagia Sophia.

The loge, for use by the sultan and his entourage during mosque services, was built by the Fossati brothers during their restoration in 1847-9.

The two wooden Arabic medallions flanking the apse bear the names of Muhammad (left) and Allah (right).
