Hagia Eirene: Hagia Eirene

Hagia Eirene

Holy Peace, one of the original Byzantine churches built in Constantinople. The present building dates from 548 AD during Justinian's reign, though it's been repaired and restored and modified several times since then. Enclosed within the outer courtyard of Topkapi Palace by Sultan Mehmed II, it was used as the armory for the elite Janissary corps.
