In a place of honor in the south side of the stone screen (pulpitum) at the front of the nave is Henry Gower's tomb. As bishop of St. David's in the 14th century, Gower made numerous improvements and embellishments to the cathedral (including the pulpitum in which he lies), constructed a wall around the cathedral close, and greatly enriched the Bishop's Palace.
