Photo Gallery: St. Non's Chapel and Well, St. Davids
On the spectacular coastline of St. Davids in Wales are two ancient monuments and sacred sites associated with St. Non, the mother of St. David. The ancient ruins of St. Non's Chapel mark the site where, according to tradition, St. Non gave birth to St. David around 500 AD. Nearby is St. Non's Well, marked by an old stone arch. The well is said to have sprung up during a thunderstorm that occurred when St. David was born, and its waters are believed to have healing properties. Next to the well is a lovely statue of St. Non wearing gifts of jewelry and with memorials and prayers for children at her feet. Today, a retreat center, with its own modern stone chapel, is located near these ancient sites.
