 Angkor, Siem Reap Angkor Thom means "the great city" in Khmer. The 12th-century Buddhist royal city is famed for its grand Bayon Temple, but has several other sights of interest as well. Believed to be the largest religious structure in the world, this Hindu temple is designed as a microcosm of the universe. Angkor, Siem Reap Located an hour from Angkor Wat, this temple hidden in the jungle is perhaps the best place to feel like Lara Croft or Indiana Jones. According to legend, a 14th-century woman named Penh found sacred Buddhist objects in a nearby river and placed them here on the small hill that is now home to Wat Phnom. |
