Gloucester Cathedral: Nave Looking Southeast

Nave Looking Southeast

The beautiful interior of Gloucester Cathedral, looking southeast. The massive Norman pillars (32 feet high and 6 feet in diameter) and typically Norman zigzag arches of the nave have been left untouched since their completion in the late 11th century. The Gothic stone vault replaced the original wooden roof in 1242. It has gilded roof bosses accented with red and green, some with figurative scenes.
