Rievaulx Abbey: South Transept and Presbytery

South Transept and Presbytery

View of the south transept and presbytery from ecclesiastical east (actual south). Part of the chapter house is on far left. Rebuilt in the 1220s, the presbytery of the abbey church is one of the great works of Early English Gothic architecture. It has strong similarities with the architecture of Ely Cathedral. Rievaulx Abbey, founded 1132. North Yorkshire, England.
