Stairway Corbel: Priest and Dragon
Corbel on a vaulting shaft in the stairway leading to the chapter house, depicting a priest holding onto the shaft with one hand while he thrusts a stick down a dragon's throat with the other. Both priest and dragon appear mild and amiable, a characteristic of the Decorated Gothic period. Early 14th century. Wells Cathedral, Wells, Somerset, England.
