Le Puy Cathedral: West Porch Stairs

West Porch Stairs

Stairs in the 12th-century west porch, which originally led into the front of the nave. Two steps beneath the arch bear a Latin inscription: "If you do not shun crime, then be sure not to cross this threshold, for the Queen of Heaven seeks a worship free of all stain." The frescoes of the arch date from the 13th century.
