Le Puy Cathedral: Cloister

Cloister

Cloister looking west. Dating from the 11th and 12th centuries, the Romanesque cloister shows strong Arab and Byzantine influences in its design. Visible at top center is the rock rising above the cathedral, which is topped with a huge red statue of the Virgin Mary called Notre Dame de France (1860).
