Ancient Corinth: Important Inscription for Biblical Studies: Erastus Inscription

Important Inscription for Biblical Studies: Erastus Inscription

An important inscription for biblical studies: the Erastus inscription. This was found in a pavement near the theater and was engraved about 50 AD. This is thought to be the same Erastus that Paul mentions in Romans 16:13: "Erastus, the city treasurer greets you." The inscription translates as, "Erastus in return for his aedileship [role as treasurer] laid this at his own expense."
