Santa Costanza: Sarcophagus Replica

Sarcophagus Replica

Closer look at the replica of the main sarcophagus of the mausoleum, which is believed to be that of Helena (d.360/61), Constantine's daughter and Julian the Apostate's wife. This is a replica of a splendid porphyry original, which is now in the Vatican Museums. The replica represents the iconography well but is no match for the rich porphyry marble of the original.
