Sign Accompanying Column of Flagellation

Sign accompanying the Column of Flagellation, to which Christ was tied as he was scourged. The relic, made of black granite, was said to have been brought from Constantinople by the papal legate Giovanni Colonna, titular cardinal of Santa Prassede, in 1223.
