St. Peter's Basilica: Porphyry Baptismal Font

Porphyry Baptismal Font

Baptistery just inside the entrance to the basilica, where a porphyry cover from a 4th-century sarcophagus is reused as the baptismal font. It previously covered the tomb of emperor Otho II (973-983) in the Vatican Grottoes.
