El Transparente
The famed El Transparente, directly behind the main altar. A wall of marble and florid baroque alabaster sculpture, the Baroque altarpiece was created in 1729-1732 by sculptor Narcisco Tomé, who cut a skylight in the ceiling to give it proper illumination. The sculptures include angels, a Last Supper in alabaster, and the Ascension of the Virgin.
