Autun Cathedral: Tympanum: The Redeemed

Tympanum: The Redeemed

Detail of the Last Judgment tympanum over the west door, sculpted by Gislebertus around 1130. Here on the lower left, the redeemed rise from their graves and rejoice with an angel. On the right can be seen two pilgrims with symbols on their bags - a Greek cross indicating Jerusalem and a scallop shell representing Santiago de Compostela. On the left, a person sits on his grave and unwraps his grave clothes, looking up in wonder.
