Chartres Cathedral: West Facade

West Facade

West facade, dating from c.1150. Aside from the crypt, it is the only survivor of the Romanesque cathedral that burned down in 1194. This photo was taken before the facade was marred by scaffolding for restorations (as it was when we visited).
