Chartres Cathedral: South Tower (1140s)

South Tower (1140s)

South side of the Romanesque south tower of Chartres Cathedral, a beautiful but plain square tower with pyramid spire dating from the 1140s. It rises 349 feet (105m) high. The north spire does not match this one; it is in a Flamboyant Gothic style of the 16th century.
