Tympanum Painting

Tympanum painting over the Portal of the Theses. Dating from 1858, the same as the bronze doors below, it depicts Luther and Melancthon kneeling before a Crucifixion against the backdrop of Wittenberg. Luther is holding his German Bible and Melancthon is holding the Augsburg Confession.
