Peterskirche

Zürich, Switzerland's largest city, is among the most beautiful in all of Europe. Despite its size, Zürich retains much of its Old World charm. Situated on the northern shore of Lake Zürich in the heart of the country, the city is both large enough to offer every amenity and small enough to discover on your own.

Zürich produces one-fifth of the nation's income, yet it's far from being a dreary city of commerce. It was the center of the Swiss Reformation under Ulrich Zwingli in the 1500s and it's long been a great center of liberal thought, attracting such scholars as Lenin, Carl Jung, James Joyce, and Thomas Mann. The Dadaist artistic school was founded here in 1916.

Zürich stands between the wooded slopes of the Uetliberg and the Zürichberg and is split by the Limmat River. Sailboats and motorboats take visitors across Lake Zürich. Zürich's Altstadt (Old Town) is one of the most intriguing in Switzerland, with numerous historic churches and dozens of streets ideal for exploring at leisure.
